Summer Camp Manager: Athletics & Aquatics
Summary:
The Summer Camp Manager is a summer leadership position focused on overseeing the daily operations, supervision, and overall experience of athletic and aquatic camps. This role coordinates major transitions, pool usage, and weather-related adjustments while serving as the primary point of contact for athletic camp coaches and camp administration. The manager plays a key role in maintaining safety, organization, and high camp standards in a fast-paced summer environment.
This is a seasonal summer role, hours are primarily 8:00am – 4:00pm. Summer Staff training and team meetings begin in May.
Reports to: Assistant Director of Camp Operations and Summer Camp Director
Qualifications:
· Experience working in camps, athletics, aquatics, or youth programs
· Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage schedules, transitions, and multiple activities
· Comfortable supporting and enforcing safety procedures in athletic and aquatic settings
· Ability to collaborate effectively with camp staff, coaches, and administration
· CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp)
· Coursework or background in education, athletics, recreation, or a related field is a plus
Classification:
Seasonal – hourly
Responsibilities:
· Oversee daily operations of athletic and aquatic camps, including attendance support, regular camp check-ins, and ensuring camper and camp needs are met
· Manage athletic and aquatic safety throughout the camp day, including supervision of lifeguards, pool safety, heat/hydration protocols, and response to minor injuries or incidents
· Coordinate and supervise all major transitions, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, pool usage, weather relocations, and full-day rain plans to ensure camper accountability and experience
· Oversee pool transitions and enforce coach engagement expectations while at the pool
· Serve as the primary point of contact for athletic camp coaches regarding daily operations, expectations, safety, and camper behavior
· Act as first point of contact for behavioral issues within athletic camps and communicate with camp administration and parents as needed
· Assist with early dismissals and ensure accurate records are maintained when campers leave early or at noon
· Ensure daily photos are taken for athletic camps and uploaded to designated folders, supporting coaches/counselors as needed
· Distribute camp giveaway items to sport camps during designated check-in times
· Provide water coolers filled with water and ice to outdoor camps daily and assist with equipment setup, coordination, and end-of-day storage
· Support schedule coordination and communicate real-time changes related to weather, space, staffing, or programming
· Report any camps that might not be meeting our camp standards early so that camper experience and safety remain the priority.
· Document and report injuries, incidents, or safety concerns in accordance with camp procedures
· Other items as assigned by the supervisor.
