Part-Time School Nurse
Employment Opportunity: The Academy of the Holy Names seeks a part-time school nurse. This is a part-time, 10-month position commencing in January of 2021.

Qualifications:
1. RN from an accredited institution
2. Current CPR certification
3. Basic First Aid course
4. Knowledge regarding handling local, bio-hazardous materials
5. Accrediting agency requirements
6. Minimum of three year’s experience in a medical setting
7. Basic technology/computer skill

Part-Time Nurse Responsibilities:
1. Provide care to students/staff who present in the clinic.
2. Be available to work in the clinic as needed when the other nurse is absent due to illness or vacation time.
3. Secure all prescribed or other medications entrusted to him/her by parents/students.
4. Administer medication and maintain a log of medication given.
5. Contact parents when a child is ill and must be dismissed from school.
6. Maintain patient confidentiality.
7. Keep daily logs of student contacts.
8. Assess minor injury and illness that occurs during the school day and administer care and first aid in accordance with legal practices for schools.
9. Send written reports to parents of minor injuries.
10. Prevention, monitoring, and control of communicable diseases affecting the school community.
11. Be certain all students are removed from the health room in the event of a fire.
12. Maintain the general well-being of all students.
13. Attend all school-related meetings deemed necessary by the supervisor.
14. Instruct faculty and students in health/hygiene issues as necessary.
15. Assist other nurses as needed to monitor, maintain, and update all student health records and ensure immunization records comply with state guidelines.
16. Assist the other nurse with any required paperwork/reports/computer work.
17. Keep the administration informed regarding situations involving students’ health and welfare.
18. Management of medical conditions affecting students during the school day (e.g. asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, allergies, migraine headaches.).
19. Initiate Student Injury Report claim form, to be completed by the teacher in charge at time student injury occurs, and direct completed form to HR.
20. Learn how to use and maintain records in Magnus Health Electronic Student Health Record and Veracross.

The nurse must not:
Diagnose any illness or injury
Discuss a child’s case unless it is to proper authorities

The nurse will report to Patti Alberts, R.N, and Elizabeth Emden, R.N.
