High School Art Teacher

Employment Opportunity: The Academy of the Holy Names seeks a High School Art teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. This is a full-time, 10-month position commencing in August of 2020. The teacher reports to the High School Principal.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's or master’s degree in education or related field.
2. Art education background and high school teaching experience preferred.
3. Florida Certificate required.
4. Support the mission and goals of the Sisters of the Holy Names and the initiatives set forth by the AHN Board of Trustees.
5. Experience teaching Advanced Placement Art History.
6. Experience working in two-dimensional media, including photography and digital media/graphic design.

Position Responsibilities:
1. Applies pedagogy and instructional strategies that foster an appreciation of the creative process; uses formative assessment and feedback to inform students of their artistic development holistically (skills and concepts, as well as artistic thinking and delivery, creative problem solving, performance effort, etc.)
2. Internalizes and teaches from enduring understandings in the arts.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
4. Comfortable with technologies, social media
5. Knowledge of 21st-century practices in the performing arts profession and education that are applicable to the classroom.
6. Maintaining a classroom environment based on respect and that reflects the values and mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names.
7. Establishing a culture of learning and an environment of positive social interaction that actively engages students in learning and self-motivation.
8. Confidence in the teaching of Art to high school students.
9. Planning and developing effective lesson plans that cover the curriculum and address the students' interests and needs.
Integrating technology into the curriculum.
10. Accurately assessing student learning through formative and summative assessments and effectively adapting instruction based on these assessments.
11. Keeping accurate records, ensuring that students are progressing and monitoring progress through progress reports and report cards.
12. Performing supervision duties as assigned.
13. Meeting with students and parents to discuss any concerns or issues with student progress and learning.
14. Participating in school-based committees and working with other teachers in the Art department and other departments in the school.
15. Attending and participating in ongoing professional development activities.
